NTPC's rehab plan for Raigarh approved

Chhattisgarh Home Minister and district in-charge of Raigarh Ramsevak Paikra presided over the district-level rehabilitation committee meet at the Raigarh Collectorate and approved a plan at to re-locate the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plant displaced persons.

The proposal will be forwarded to the State Government by the committee. Roshanlal Agrawal, MlA, Raigarh, laljit Singh Ratia, MlA, Dharamjaigarh, Mahendra Chowtha, Mayor, people’s representatives, janpad and gram panchayat officials and affected villagers were present. Mukesh Bansal, Collector, Raigarh provided details of the scheme.

Paikra said that NTPC management should follow the model rehabilitation policy of the Chhattisgarh government. He said NTPC should chalk-out a plan to preserve environment.

The Home Minister further said that compensation should be paid to the affected families in a time-bound manner and basic amenities should be provided in the colonies. The children of affected families should be provided healthy environment for proper development of their personalities.

The minister appealed to the beneficiaries   to  utilize compensation for the betterment of their families. He cautioned them not to be lured by chit fund companies and fraudulent schemes.

Mukesh Bansal, Collector said NTPC is a Central Government undertaking. The power plant is to be established in lara village, Pusour development block. The coal extracted from Taraipali coal mines will be used at lara plant. Bansal said displaced families will be rehabilitated and compensation will be paid in a time-bound and phased manner. The colonies should be provided with basic amenities.

Bansal said bank accounts should be opened in the names of elders and women. A member of each displaced family should be provided with employment through mining contractor.

The Collector said drinking water should be provided to all. The children should be provided with healthy environment for their proper development. The Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Pusour should be expanded and upgraded. The goal should be to give training to youth to provided them with employment.
