The State Government has issued notification for the formation of district panchayats in nine new districts. The notification was issued by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department on behalf of the Governor had also been published.
In accordance to the declaration made by Chief Minister Raman Singh, Balod, Gariyaband, Bemetara, Balodabazar—Bhattapara, Sukma, Kondagaon, Mungeli, Surajpur and Balrampur-Ramanujganj districts had been formed in January 2012. With these nine new districts, the number of districts in the state has increased to 27.
Formation of district panchayats in these new districts would be done through reorganisation of the former district panchayats. For that, Raipur, Durg, Bastar (Jagadalpur), South Bastar (Dantewada), Bilaspur and Sarguja district panchayats would be reorganised.
People can submit their claims, objections or suggestions within 10 days of the publication of the notification at Mantralaya Room Number S-0-41 to Deputy Secretary Panchayat and Rural Development Department.On the applications of claims and objections, the State government will take final decision after holding hearing on a further date. District panchayats in all the new districts will be constituted under Sub Section 3 of Section 10 of the Chhattisgarh Panchayat Raj Act 1993 (No.1, year 1994).
In the notification, the State Government, under sub section 3 of section 127 of the Chhattisgarh Panchayat Raj Act, has proposed that the district panchayats Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Dantewada, Bastar and Sarguja, which are to be affected with the notification, will remain in existence as earlier, after the next general election upto the first meeting of the newly formed district panchayats, under sub section (1) of Section 34 of the Act.
