A team of experts of National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR) is in the State capital to review the status of malaria and other vector-borne diseases in the districts that fall under Narmada valley.
The team here in a high- level meeting reviewed the progress of the health project being implemented in the districts of the State where Narmada valley major dams are located.
The NIMR in association with Narmada Valley Development Authority is implementing health project which is focused on health impact assessment of Narmada basin dams and resettlement and rehabilitation colonies in Madhya Pradesh.
The NIMR has established three malaria research units at Narmada Nagar (Khandwa), Jabalpur and Bhopal to implement the project.
The experts of NIMR besides reviewing the progress of implementation of the project also discussed on the precautionary steps that should be taken to keep in control Malaria, Dengue and other vector borne diseases in the resettlement and rehabilitation colonies and areas of irrigation projects.
The principal investigator of NIMR Dr BN Nagpal explained the progress of the project by a presentation. The unit in-charge of the State also put their presentation and seek necessary directions.
The director NIMR Neena Valecha made introductory remarks. The experts who participated in the review are Advisor Ministry of Health and Family welfare Shivlal, Senior Public Health Consultant Pl Joshi, Former Advisor WHO and former director NIMR AP Das. The joint Director State Health Department Mohan Singh and consultant JC Paliwal also participated in discussion.
The health subject matter expert of NVDA JK Jain and Bhopal research unit head Sompal said that vector borne diseases are under control in the valley where NIMR project is being implemented.
