The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought comments from all the petitioners who have filed complaints with it regarding compensations to the kin of the deceased and injured persons in the Bhusan blast case last year.
This commission had sought such comments after the Dhenkanal district administration submitted a report with it that due compensation has been paid to the deceased and the injured ones in the Bhusan blast case.
The commission has been submitted with such report since a notice was issued to the Dhenkanal district authorities on the petitions filed by Majoj, Radhakanta Tripathy and other human rights activists.
In the petitions it was alleged that due to lack of safety measures by the plant authorities, a work man was burnt alive and 16 others got injured following a huge explosion during commissioning of a slag granulation plant in blast furnace in Bhushan Steel limited in Dhenkanal district.
It was also alleged that such incidents annually happen in the plants due to unholy nexus between Government officers and Plant authorities, who close their eye on safety measures.
Taking cognizance of the matter the commission on November 18, 2013 had sought a report from Dhenkanal Collector and SP.
Pursuant to the directions of the commission, the Dhenkanal SP forwarded a report dated 24.01.2014 which revealed that in connection with the accident, criminal cases has been registered and officers concerned have already been arrested. The Collector had also submitted its report.
After getting the reports, the NHRC has sent the reports to all the complainants, for their comments, if any, within eight weeks.
