The death of one girl from dengue on Tuesday has jolted the health department into action.
The department was proactive during the months of August and September as it conducted intensive fogging and organised camps in the affected areas but it relaxed its activities with the onset of winters.
The incidence of dengue subsides with the end of monsoon period and the department too was in a slumber till the death of the girl in one of the private hospitals of the State jolted it into action.
In a knee jerk action the Health department teams had visited Kanwali road area on Wednesday where the deceased girl resided and engaged in intensive fogging. It also collected five blood samples of the family members of the girl.
On Thursday two new cases of Dengue were reported from the Deepnagar and Rajiv Nagar areas of the city taking the official figure of Dengue in the district to 88 this year.
In the isolation ward of the Doon hospital four patients of Dengue are getting treatment .The District Vector Borne diseases officer JP Bahuguna told The Pioneer that the reports of the samples of the family members and relatives of the deceased girl taken on Wednesday were negative.
He informed that the CMI hospital had not kept the blood sample of the deceased girl. The medical health department wanted the blood sample of the girl for Enzyme linked Immuno Sorbent Assay (ElISA) test.
The CMI hospital authorities had claimed on the basis of rapid test that the girl had dengue but the health department considers only ElISA test as confirmatory test for the disease.
Interestingly the department scaled down the figure of the dengue cases in the month of September taking refuge in the technicalities of type of test performed on the patients.
Bahuguna claimed that the department is still vigilant on dengue front and the teams are visiting the affected areas. He said that the worst affected Bhagat Singh Colony is now free from the disease and the health department teams are now visiting colonies like Mehuwala, Brahmanwala and Deepnagar.
