My opponents are under CBI scanner: Jayant Sinha

Monday, 31 March 2014 | Mukesh Ranjan | Hazaribagh

Jayant Sinha, BJP candidate from Hazaribagh lok Sabha constituency and son of the former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha, offers three benefits for a single vote casted by an individual in his favour. Firstly, a competent representative with a very clean image and high level of integrity, his father as a guardian and guide who has contributed a lot for the development of the district will continue to contribute for the development of Hazaribagh and lastly and Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India. Excerpts from an interview:

Being a fresh candidate from Hazaribagh, how would you convince people to vote for youIJ

If you keep my father and Modi out of the equation, I am offering irresistible opportunity for the voters of Hazaribagh as they will be getting three benefits out of a single vote. If you compare me with my father I have a very simple proposition which are following — if you take Saurabh Narayan Singh or loknath Mahto, they have done nothing for the development of Hazaribgh. One is a three time MlA from Badkagaon and the other one is two time MlA from Hazaribagh, who have actually delivered nothing on the ground,

Given the fact that the two of your major opponents are political heavyweights do you think you are capable enough to represent Hazaribagh in ParliamentIJ

Anybody looking at my experiences and track record in business, I think, would agree that I am capable of doing more for Hazaribagh. I have documented the public agenda that I have published for the people of Hazaribagh. My other two opponents however, have not even communicated what they have done for Hazaribagh. Sad truth is that Saurabh Narayan Singh has two CBI raids against him. Moreover, he is also known to have sold his Rajya Sabha vote to a candidate. CBI probe is also pending against loknath Mahto.

How would you associate yourself with Hazaribagh, while the other two opponents have been working here as legislators for the last 10-15 yearsIJ

I am a voter in Hazaribagh and I have been here for the last so many years. I have been deeply associated with Hazaribagh since my father was elected from here. Moreover, since 1998 I have been associated with the whole host of political activities in Hazaribagh.

As per the reports, caste factor will be playing a crucial role in the coming elections. What you have to say on thatIJ

I think it’s crystal clear that the people want development above all and to vote for a candidate who can deliver. People of Hazaribagh and also nationally are looking for development. They want better life. Even Mr Modi is popular in India not because he is appealing to a popular vote bank. There would always be some people who would be voting on the basis of caste but their number is very small.

Being an IITian and various other professional degrees as well as professional track record in finance, what prompted you to join politicsIJ

I have been interested in the public service for a long time. I have a family which has devoted itself for the public service for India. Certainly my father is in politics but my cousins, my brother in laws and many others. My grandfather was in Indian civil Services so I have a family itself serving to India. As a result of that I have always been very interested and involved in many activities related to public service assisting my father on a policy basis

Why did you chose this election for taking plunge into politics, given the fact that your father is a sitting MP from hereIJ

India right now, is in crisis and it’s very important for people like me having a tremendous interest in the public service and also the ability to contribute to public service, to step forward and to help this country out of the crisis.

In fact in my public speeches, I say that anyone who is a patriot will want to help India right now and everybody will help India in different way some people would go to polling booth and vote for BJP but for me the way I express my patriotism and I desire to help my country is to step into electoral politics.

How do you see Narendra Modi as a Prime MinisterIJ

I think he will be historic. What he has done in Gujarat speaks. He is a man with very clear ideas who wants to take India forward, he is decisive, great leader and I have tremendous confidence that under his leadership India as a Nation will flourish.

What kind of support you are getting from your father in this electionIJ

It’s very interesting. In 2009, I was the campaign manager for his elections and this time he is the campaign manager for my elections.
