Modi Govt eying State coal: Sonia

Sunday, 30 November 2014 | Parvinder Bhatia | JAMSHEDPUR

Straightening her guns against Narendra Modi Government at the Centre, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday alleged that Modi Government is eying coal of Jharkhand to meet their vested interests. She said that the saffron party is desperate to come to power just to fulfil its needs.

Gandhi was addressing an election rally at Jalla College Ground of Patamda under Jugsalai Assembly constituency, 40 km from here. She said that after handing over land at cheaper price to the Adani Group in Gujarat, the Modi Government is now eying the coal of Jharkhand. She cautioned the people to beware of such hidden agenda of the BJP.

"I want to caution you about the people who are trying to rob the natural resources of Jharkhand. The BJP had made claims that they will bring back black money to the country in 100 days. What happened to the claimIJ The Government has increased prices of several life saving medicines which were much cheaper during the Congress rule," claimed Gandhi. BJP turncoat Dulal Bhuiyan is the Congress candidate from Jugsalai, reserves for Scheduled Caste.

She also criticised the Jan Dhan Yojna and said that most of the accounts are running without any money. The Union Government had nothing new to offer, she added. Addressing a gathering of about 10,000 people, she said that the BJP was in power in Jharkhand for the most number of years but despite all claims they failed to ensure development and progress. She said that agriculture is one such area where there can be immense possibilities in areas like Patamda and steps should be taken to promote it. She said that if the Congress is voted to power, the party will ensure inclusive growth of the people.

She claimed that the BJP is not concerned about effective human development in Jharkhand or else it would have utilized funds allotted by UPA Government. The Congress president said that the UPA government had tried to give the people of Jharkhand a number of schemes like the MNREGA and rural electrification programme, but BJP governments did not let them reach the people.
