Mercury dips as rain lashes Haryana, Punjab

The maximum temperatures in Punjab and Haryana dropped below normal levels after light to moderate rain lashed a few parts of the two States on Sunday.

The joint capital of two States, Chandigarh, which received a drizzle during the day, recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal. In Haryana, light rain lashed Panchkula and Ambala. Ambala recorded a high of 33.9 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal. Hisar’s maximum settled within the normal range at 39.7 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperatures recorded was 27 degrees Celsius in Ambala, 26.8 degrees in Bhiwani, 27.8 degrees Celsius in Hisar and 27 degrees Celsius in Narnaul.Among other places in Punjab, Amritsar was lashed by heavy showers and recorded 32 mm rains. Patiala, Mohali, Ropar, Batala and parts of Gurdaspur were among other places in Punjab to receive rains.

Amritsar settled at the maximum temperature of 32.2 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal. ludhiana and Patiala recorded respective below normal maximums of 34 degrees Celsius and 34.2 degrees Celsius.According to the MeT Department forecast, light to moderate rain or thunder showers may occur at a few places in Punjab and at isolated places in Haryana over the next two days.
