Medical Council India disallows increase in 72 PG seats after GMC Patiala censure by MlAG

Friday, 28 February 2014 | PNS | Chandigarh

Medicos legal Action Group (MlAG) has condemned the state of affairs at Government Medical College Patiala which has led to Medical Council of India (MCI) disallowing increase in 72 postgraduate seats as decided by Central Government. Dr Neeraj Nagpal, Convener of MlAG stated that this is a big blow to aspirations of thousands of MBBS doctors of Punjab who are waiting to complete their postgraduation. He said that it is unfortunate that the reasons given for disallowing include basic issues like lack of departmental library, absence of essential equipment like blood gas analyser and Non Invasive Ventilator Support in Department of Chest Diseases. In Department of Obstetrics and Gynae no new books have been purchased in last three years for department library, there is no Septic labour Room for infected cases, Baby resuscitation kits were not available. No Paediatric Intensive Care Unit exists in the hospital.
