Maoists slay Odisha liquor trader in J'khand

Sunday, 31 August 2014 | PNS | BARIPADA/ MALKANGIRI

Maoists have killed two persons at two separate places in Mayurbhanj and Malkangiri districts in this week. According to information, a group of Red rebels killed a person at a weekly haat at Sinpura in Jharkhand on Friday afternoon. The trader, identified as Kissan Sao, was a liquor trader from Saraskana block in Mayubhanj district.

It may be noted that the Maoists had on the Independence Day circulated posters at Pakatia village of Saraskana block protesting the preparation and sale of country liquor in the area and warning the liquor manufacturers and traders of dire consequences. In another incident, the left-wing ultras shot dead a 55-year-old tribal, named Gutta, of Namkonda village under the Kalimela police station in Malkangiri district late on Wednesday night. They had dragged Gutta from his house and later shot dead him, sources said.

While the victim’s family members have refused to report the incident to the police, it is suspected that the incident might have been the fallout of a land dispute.
