Maoist dy commander surrenders; another held

In separate incidents, police arrested a hardcore Naxal while a Deputy Commander of ‘Maoist Technical Team’ surrendered here, a senior police officer said on Monday. Superintendent of Police (SP), Bijapur, Kl Dhruv informed that Kamlesh alias Tati Gandhi alias Jagdish was arrested from Dantewada Mela based on precise information. Kamlesh has a long criminal record and 10 permanent warrants were issued by local court for his arrest. He was involved in different serious criminal offences such as murder, attempt to murder and loot. In all, 31 cases were registered against Kamlesh with different police stations in the district and cash reward of Rs 40,000 was declared on his head, Dhruv said. Kamlesh was member of Naxal platoon number 12 active in the region and had reached Dantewada fair with some malafide intentions, the SP said. In a separate incident a Deputy Commander of ‘Maoist Technical Team number 13, Budhram lekami alias Rangu alias Vikas resident of Kotarapal Puranapara under Jangla police station of Bijapur laid down his arms. He was deeply dissatisfied with dual standard adopted by Maoists. Budhram used to repair and maintain arms-ammunitions used by the rebels. The surrendered insurgent was immediately provided with assistance of Rs 10,000. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) (Bastar) SRP Kalluri before whom Budhram surrendered assured him that benefits of all welfare schemes being run by State government would be extended to him, Dhruv said.
