A Maoist leader and Area Committee Member of Barsoor in the insurgency hit Dantewada district who carried a cash reward of Rs5 lakh on his head surrendered before the police here, a senior police officer informed on Monday.
Superintendent of Police, Dantewada, Kl Kashyap informed that Jhimtu alias Agar Mandavi (25) resident of Mindalgodi village under Barsoor police station surrendered before Inspector General of Police (IGP) (Bastar) SRP Kalluri.
The insurgent was active member of Barsoor Area Committee of East Bastar
division of the banned organisation Communist Party of India (Maoists) and was deeply hurt with shabby treatment meted upon by Naxal leaders to
him, the SP said.
Jhimtu had joined the Maoist group in 2011 and in 2012 completed Maoist training. He used to carry a .303 rifle and was involved in different serious Naxal incidents.
In 2012, the insurgent was part of the group which had attacked a CRPF team in the jungles of Kodenar wherein a police jawan was injured. Similarly in the month of February 2013, he had triggered an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) targeting a vehicle of Barsoor Station House Officer (SHO) who was returning from Ghotpal Mela. Four persons including the SHO were injured in the explosion, Kashyap said.
This year, Jhimtu along with other Naxals had attacked a STF (Special Task Force) party near Kilem village under Mardum police station wherein Company Commander lav Kumar Bhagat and a jawan were martyred, the SP said.
Police had declared cash reward of Rs5 lakh on his head, he said.
