Friday, 28 February 2014 | PNS | Haldwani

Devotees observed Mahashivratri with traditional fervour and enthusiasm in different parts of the region here on Thursday.

With huge importance of the Mahashivratri particularly amongst Hindus, public holiday is also declared on this occasion so that people could observe this religious occasion without any difficulty. So the devotees accompanied by children could be seen offering prayers in temples including lord Shiva temples in different parts of the region here on Thursday. They could be seen thronging different lord Shiva and other  temples to perform worships since early morning. It is to note that the devotees also observe fast to pay their respect to lord Shiva on the occasion of Mahashivratri.

Mahashivratri has huge importance in our Hindu religious traditions and people  observe this religious occasion with same enthusiasm even today, said Amrit Sanwal, a devotee. The fact is that even the new generation observe Mahashivratri with same enthusiasm and devotion, he added. In the meanwhile, in a bid to avoid any untoward incident on the occasion of the Mahashivratri, the Nainital district police made tight security arrangements around the major temple complexes and other busy places.

However, the religious occasion of Mahashivratri went off peacefully. No any untoward incident was reported from any parts of the region.
