Election Commissioner Naseem Zaidi and Deputy Election Commissioner Sudhir Tripathi addressing mediapersons here on Sunday, told that a total of 4.80 crore voters would exercise their franchise for the 2014 general elections in the State. There is an increase of one crore voters in the State in comparision to 2009 general elections when it was 3.8 crores.
Zaidi and Tripathi said that they met representatives of political parties on Sunday morning who gave positive suggestions and extended full support to election management.They also conveyed some complaints. All their suggestions and complaints will be attended , they added.
The ECI officials also hold review meetings with DEOs, SPs and discussed all aspects of election management besides holding discussion with CS, DGP, IT and Excise officials on election related issues.The ECI officials said that they have directed the State officials to observe impartiality and complete non-partisanship of election machinery; strict action against deviation, complete level playing field and strict and fair application of law, Moral Code of Conduct and expenditure control, besides the officials of the State were told to maintain law and order, peace and communal harmony.
They said that voters’ right to franchise will be protected and higher voter participation will be promoted.They said that massive SVEEP campaign undertaken for enrolment, particularly to bridge gender and youth gaps and include excluded groups. Mega camps, partners, ambassadors and Icons involved in a big way.
Zaidi said that the political parties requested for adequate security. DEOs were asked efficient and neutral deployment of CPF and State Armed police.Officers were told that there shall be no presence of any unauthorized persons inside polling station. Polling officials will face action if such presence is found, he added.Officials were asked that mobile police parties will visit vulnerable areas on polling days to check that there is no intimidation and fear.
