Gravely concerned over the deteriorating condition of civic services in the past a few years, the residents of Dilaram Bazaar are other localities of the State capital have expressed their resentment over the lack of initiative on the part of authorities to clean the drainage system in town ahead of the rainy season.
Dilaram Bazaar area resident Rangi lal says, ‘‘We can’t even sit outside due to the stench being emitted by the roadside drain. The authorities concerned are not acting as required to resolve this problem.”
Shopkeeper Saurav Malhotra said that heaps of waste in public places and lack of timely cleaning of the drains is creating health problems for the residents.
Amar Singh Rawat who runs a shop at Dl Road says, “We pay tax for the maintenance of drains but what is the use of it when officials are careless when it comes to cleaning them”.
Residents of Dl Road and other localities complain that dairy owners continue to dump cow dung in drains which not only clogs the drains but also spreads stench in the localities.
It is pertinent to mention here that the advent of the rainy season is expected to increase civic woes like water logging and lack of civic sanitation as the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun has not yet been able to clear up the network of roadside drains in the State capital.
The Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli has already stated that the negligence of the State Government towards the staff shortage and other problems being faced by the MCD are negatively affecting the functioning of the corporation.
Continued dumping of garbage in roadside drains by residents and shopkeepers is one of the major reasons for clogged drains in the city which in turn cause water logging during the rainy season.
