The Gramin Vikas Samiti has alleged that apart from encroaching on Government and municipal corporation land in the State capital, the land mafia has now encroached on the land of a cremation ground in Dehradun.
In a statement released to the media, the Gramin Vikas Samiti head Kunwar Singh said that the land mafia has become more active in the State since the creation of Uttarakhand. After grabbing government and municipal land, the land mafia has now encroached upon the land of the cremation ground near Badowala Chowk on Shimla bypass road. A boundary wall was constructed overnight on the cremation ground land here which has increased the level of discontent among the locals. Singh said that when the locals opposed this encroachment they were threatened by the land mafia. The Gramin Vikas Samiti will soon demand action in this case from the District administration and police. He said that failure to act without delay in this case might deteriorate the situation and also lead to disturbance in the area.
