Young couple, Avishek Ganguli and Archita Ganguli, who had fled from Kolkata to evade police arrest for cheating, was nabbed from a hotel here and a huge amount of cash and a luxury car were recovered from their possession.
They were produced before the SDJM Court, Puri. In response to a prayer of the Kolkata police, the Magistrate granted them permission to take the accused persons to Kolkata on remand on Tuesday.
According to Bidhan Nagar police, a group of persons, including this couple, were accused of cheating students assuring them to get admission into a medical college.
They along with their other associates took over three crores of rupees from about 25 aspirants and failed to keep their promise. A number of complaints were filed against them in the Bidhan Nagar police station. While Bidhan nagar police had arrested two in this connection, others were absconding.
The duo had sneaked into Puri by road in a car and checked into the Abhishek hotel along the beach under the Baliapanda police station limits.
On a tip off, the Bidhan Nagar police had arrived at Puri and with the assistance of their Puri counterpart, a raid was conducted on the hotel on the Tuesday. The police recovered Rs 16 lakh kept in a bag from their possession.
