Tension gripped the district headquarters hospital premises on Monday afternoon following death of a woman patient here.
Sources said the deceased’s kin and angry villagers ransacked the hospital for which health service was disrupted. later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control besides detaining five persons.
Sources said one Basanta Kumari Dei [62] hailing from Kirtanpur village near Saionra Panchayat, an asthma patient, had come to the district headquarters hospital for treatment on Sunday night.
The victim was administered an injection and given medicines. She was advised to return village then.
Despite the pleading of the patient’s attendants to the doctor to allow her get admitted and stay in the hospital, the latter did not accede to it.
Strangely the patient’s condition turned critical after she reached her home and though she was again shifted to the district headquarters hospital, she died on the wee hours of Monday. After the news of her death spread to her village, hundreds of residents including her kin ghearoed the hospital and ransacked it.
Meanwhile the hospital authority clarified that the woman had been provided with necessary treatment on Sunday. “No negligence had been made by the hospital,” informed district medical officer Dr Binod Mohapatra.
