Says Govt failed to provide raw material linkage

The Jindal Steel and Power limited (JSPl) claimed that its procurement and transport of iron ore from Thakurani B Mines has been completely legal at all times.

In a release, the JSPl clarified that as a mining and metal company, it has been always exploring bonafide opportunities to have assured raw material linkage for production efficiency as well as organic and inorganic growth. Besides, it has contributed about `1,271 crore as revenue to the Govt exchequer from its Angul operation alone, while in respect of Barbil and Tensa, the revenue contributed is `1,105 crore, the release said. The JSPl further said that the State Govt had agreed to assist the company for supply of raw materials. However, so far no iron ore mines have been allotted to the JSPl for captive use, it alleged.

It said on receipt of an order from the Director of Mines not to further transport the iron ore from the Thakurani Mines, the company has moved the State High Court, challenging the order. Notably, a show cause notice by the State Govt was issued earlier for violation of Rule 37 to the lessee of Thakurani B mines against which the lessee has filed an appeal before the Revisional Authority challenging the composition of the committee, constituted by the Government. Meanwhile, the appeal of the lessee has been upheld by the RA.
