Athagarh forest officials on Thursday rescued a three-year-old elephant calf near the Tigiria jungle under the Athagarh Forest Range in Cuttack district.
According to sources, the calf got isolated from a herd of elephants near Karadapalli village under the Tigiria police station limits on Wednesday night. In the morning, the villagers intimated forest officials about the presence of the elephant calf in their locality.On the direction of Athagarh DFO Arun Mishra, a team was formed under the leadership of Athagarh Ranger Gouragopal Singh to rescue the calf.
The team later with the help of local police and fire brigade personnel rescued the calf having several pierced marks on its body.As the wounds were approaching to septic, Tigiria veterinary surgeons dressed its wounds and referred the pachyderm to Athagarh Forest Office for further treatment. “It will take at least a week to make the pachyderm free from ailment,” said DFO Mishra.
