To create a friendly environment for comprehensive development of adolescents with better physical and mental abilities, the Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI)-Aparajita organised a media advocacy programme on ‘The Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR)’ here on Thursday.
It is observed that most adolescents are misled and get into various problems due to improper information gained from their peer groups to their several queries about physical, psychological and sociological transitions that occur during their adolescence.
Therefore, education on reproductive and sexual health for adolescents is an essential prerequisite for providing knowledge on their growing up processes, body parts and age-appropriate knowledge, informed VHAI-Aparajita State Project coordinator Dr Bishwaranjan Purohit.
“Education on adolescence health should be included in course curriculum to make adolescents aware about issues related to physical changes, menstruation hygiene, prevention of sexually-transmitted diseases and reproductive tract infections, HIV/AIDS, etc,” Purohit added.
OVHA secretary KH Swain and ED Dr Dilip Samal also spoke on the occasion, among others.
