Kartavya, the CSR Club of IIM Raipur, has undertaken the task of providing relief for the afflicted people of the recent floods that struck the State of Jammu and Kashmir in the month of September 2014.

A material-collection drive called ‘Raahat’ will be undertaken from September 30 to October 1, 2014 by IIM Raipur volunteers, an institute  press release issued here on Monday stated. Raahat is a modest step towards fulfilling the basic needs of the people in J&K, while other grand-scale procedures continue from all sides, it stated.

As a part of Raahat, households, schools, colleges, shopping complexes and nearby localities will be visited for support towards this noble cause. The participants will urge citizens to be a part of this campaign and donate whatever they can so as to uplift the situation of the Kashmiri people.

It is expected that huge amounts of material will be collected at the end of this drive and once this collection is completed at the city level, the material will be sent across to Jammu and Kashmir via Goonj, a national level NGO. Also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared it as a national disaster. Various State Governments are involved in sending equipment and other resources to expedite draining out of water from flooded areas of the Kashmir valley.

Moreover, massive rescue and rehabilitation operations are on the same lines, it stated.Meanwhile, as a result of this eventuality, lots of people are stranded in the affected areas. They are in dire need of necessities like clothes, blankets, basic medicines, utensils, dry ration, bed sheets, buckets, mats, torches and other such utilities.

In response to this emergency situation, Kartavya, the CSR club of IIM Raipur has decided to act on the same as mentioned above, the press release stated.
