With heavy to very heavy rains lashing the capital city on Wednesday, the traffic on several main roads was chock-a-block due to water-logging. The city received 59.6 mm rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, sources from the Met Department said.
Due to the heavy downpour, several roads in the city were flooded with rain waters and overflowing drainage waters, causing great difficulty to the commuters in the city. Main roads, including the NH-5 near Iskon temple, at Saheed Nagar, Bhomikhal Chhak, flyover connecting Acharya Vihar to Vani Vihar and Rasulgarh Square, etc were flooded.
The traffic system on these roads came to a grinding halt for a while due to the development. “I was going from Baramunda to Nayapalli for some work by auto. But, it took me nearly 20 minutes due to the water-logging in front of the Iskon-temple,” said Sushant Nayak. One can easily imagine the situation in low-lying areas covering colonies like Sailashree Vihar, Niladrivihar, Shantinagar and Tankapani areas, where the residents were forced to remain indoors with the rain and drain waters inundating their colonies. The city dwellers also faced hardships while parking their vehicles; going to workplaces and marketing in the city.
