Himachal Governor Urmila Singh and CM Virbhadra Singh have expressed grief over the demise of 86-year-old, Padma Bhushan awardee and famous historian, Prof Bipin Chandra who passed away at his residence in Gurgaon after prolonged illness on Saturday.
Governor Urmila Singh prayed the Almighty to give peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family members to bear the irreparable loss.Virbhadra Singh said Prof Chandra was a noted educationist, scholar and an academician of par excellence. He said the void created by his death would be difficult to fill.
Prof Chandra hailed from Kangra in Himachal Pradesh and had written many history books which formed part of school curriculum. He was an authority on modern Indian history.
Born in 1928, the octogenarian, Professor of History got his education from Christian College lahore, Stanford University in US and Delhi University. He also remained Member of UGC, Chairperson of the Centre for Historical Studies, Chairman of the National Book Trust, besides many other International and National organisations.
