Two persons died on the spot as a goods transport vehicle rammed into Dillirajhara-Durg local passenger train at an unmanned railway crossing at Pararas, near Balod, on Sunday afternoon.
According to sources, entangled with the train, the ill-fated Tata S vehicle was dragged along fo about one kilometre. The dead included the driver of the vehicle and another woman. While the two died on the spot, four others suffered serious injuries in the accident. All of them were taken to Balod district hospital with the help of 108 Emergency service, where, after first aid, one of them has been referred to Durg district hospital.
The mishap occurred at about one km from the Balod railway station, at the unmanned railway crossing where there was no gate either. Among the injured, a woman has her hand amputated.
As the vehicle was dragged on for a long distance by the trin, the rail track has also been damaged and the train service has been suspended.On getting information, a team of railway officers has reached the place of accident and the track clearance work has started.
According to sources, the ill-fated vehicle was loaded with vegetables and three women and three men were travelling on it. They were going to Balod for selling the vegetables.
