The Brahmapur Excise police on Sunday arrested four persons and seized 40 kg of Ganja and a car worth Rs 5 lakh from them while conducted raids at two separate places in the city here. The ganja smugglers were carrying the contraband to sell out to the drug peddlers.
The arrested identified as Ramakant Giri (38), Prithvi Singh (25) and Akhilesh Kumar Yadav (26) from Bihar and Firoz Bira (24) of Mohana in Gajapati district were forwarded to a local court here.
According to Brahmapur Excise IIC Ranjan Kumar Nayak, a team of officials including SI Sarat Chandra Bhanja, Hrudaya Chandra Samanta, G Rama Rao and ladu Kishore Panigrahi conducted raids on a car at Kalua Chhack on the outskirts of the city and seized 30 kg ganja from the vehicle. The accused had purchased the narcotic stuffs from a border area of Gajapati and Rayagada district, he added.
In an another surprise raid, Nayak said, the Excise team arrested Firoz from the Station road here and seized 10 kg ganja from him while he was taking the same to Puri.
