As many as 40 more new battery operated three wheelers are in the lines to hit the city roads soon. The proprietor of Shree Shayam Battery and Carrier, the authorised dealer of battery operated rickshaws in the city Geetaram Poddar sharing information about the same, said, “The rising demand of people has forced us to increase the increase the number from four to forty. Within couple of months we hopeful of introducing as many as 40 new battery operated rickshaws in the state capital.”
A couple of months ago looking at the increasing cost of the diesel battery operated three wheeler was introduced in the city. Earlier the rickshaw was mounted at Ranchi railway station to ferry the passengers from one platform to another but looking at the craze of the people the rickshaw started helping residents commute within the town.
A daily commuter Twesha Sinha said, “I prefer travelling in battery operated three wheelers as it does not pinch my pocket. The manual rickshaw pullers who charge Rs15 for travelling the distance from Albert Ekka Chowk to Kutchery chowk there within just Rs8, I can cover the same distance in battery operated rickshaw.”
Presently, only four battery operated rickshaws are plying on limited routes of the city. The rickshaw has a capacity of boarding four to six passengers at a time.
The rickshaw driver Anjani Kumar explaining the positive aspect of the rickshaw said, “We are receiving good response from the people. The rickshaw is giving good return as it runs 85 km in just eight hour charge. Moreover, the cost of the rickshaw is just 1.15 lakh which is half the cost of diesel auto rickshaws.”
Meanwhile, the administration is also looking at a best alternative in the direction of making the city free from the clutches of pollution.
Traffic SP Rajeev Ranjan said, “It is true that battery operated rickshaws are playing a pivotal role in making the environment free from the clutches of pollution. We are looking at every aspect and will see what we can do to promote it in the near future.”
