Strong resentment is brewing among the students seeking admission in Plus Two Science in the FM Junior College owing to an ‘ambiguous’ directive of the Higher Education Department.
The department had directed that the student capacity in urban colleges would be increased by 10 per cent and in rural colleges by 20 per cent from their existing strengths during the current academic year. The FM Junior College had 448 sanctioned seats in +2 Science. But parents have alleged that the college authorities have not implemented the Government direction in letter and spirit. The college has taken only 27 students against 45 increased seats and is not intending to take students for the rest 18 seats for the reason best known to them, some parents said.
“The FM Junior College took 27 students through manual means. A lot of manipulations were made since the admission process was done online,” alleged Baleswar Bar Association Secretary Manoj Nayak, adding that the principal he is not taking admissions in the rest 18 seats though requested time and again.
Principal Ranjan Ray, on the other hand, said, “This year the admission was open till first week of September. We could find 27 students within a stipulated period of time and offered them admission. We have communicated about this to the department.” The online process of college admissions was made through the OCAC for the first phase but the second phase was made manually, he said, adding, “We had no hitch either for computerization admission or to fill up all the seats” he said.
