Flag Foundation of India marks Martyrs' Day, pays tributes to Gandhi

Friday, 31 January 2014 | PNS | Ranchi

On the occasion of Martyr’s day, Flag Foundation of India rekindled the Gandhian Principles of Non-violence and Communal Harmony by organising an Evening - ‘Sadbhavna Sandhya- Mahatma Ke Path Par’ dedicated to the Father of the Nation, at the India Gate lawns in New Delhi. A Press communiqué from the foundation informed about the event.

Compared by iconic television personality Annu Kapoor, the programme brought together thousands of people across the country to observe a minute’s silence to honour the great Mahatma, who sacrificed his life for the nation’s freedom struggle. The atmosphere was emotionally charged when over 20,000 people from all walks of life joined hands to form a human chain and chanted ‘RaghupatiRaghav, Raja Ram’ remembering the Father of the Nation and the Gandhian values.

Speaking on the occasion about the Great Mahatma, Naveen Jindal, president of Flag Foundation of India, said, “Mahatma Gandhi has inspired people from across the world for generations. He embodies change that common people can bring when they get together. The Sadbhavna concert commemorates this great man, his ideals of non-violence and equality in a way that appeals to the younger generation. It is up to the youth to carry forth the values of our flag and ensure that the Tiranga flies high wherever Indians are making a mark.”
