In a major success, five hardcore Naxals including three female insurgents surrendered before police here in insurgency riddled Bastar region. This was for the first time that ultras had surrendered with arms and explosives.

According to police in past three and half months 304 Naxals have laid down their arms. Superintendent of Police, Jagdalpur, Ajay Yadav informed that Deputy Commander Indravati Area Committee Podiyami Hidma alias lakshman handed over a 12 knot, one hand grenade and 6 kg tiffin bomb to police after surrender.

lakshman is just 18 years old and had joined Naxal cadre two years back while he was 16 years old, the SP said.

The female insurgents identified as Murami Palo, Madvi Batti and Ramo Vekka were distressed with shabby treatment meted out to them in the Maoist organization.

The provisions in surrender policy of the Chhattisgarh government also convinced them to leave the path of violence, he said. Initially cash reward of Rs5,000 was handed over to them as immediate relief.

Apart from insurgents, the cops who had convinced lakshmna to leave Naxal path were also rewarded. Meanwhile, in a separate case, Naxal Madkami Bheema surrendered before SP Dantewada on Thursday.

SP Kamlochan Kashyap informed that Bheema was member of Dandakaryna Kisan Shramik Morcha, an offshoot of banned Naxal organization Communist Party of India (Maoist). The insurgent had joined the Naxal cadre in 2007 and in 2009 he was trained for operating arms. He was involved several serious criminal incidents like murder, attempt to murder, loot attack on police party, the SP said.
