On the final day of 83rd AlI India Swami Shradhanand Hockey tournament, the final match was played between Food Corporation of India New Delhi and Gurukul Kangadi Vishwavidyalaya Haridwar.
Hundreds of spectators were present to see the match. Chief guests of the match were Madan Kaushik, MlA Haridwar City and Punjab National Bank Circle Head Sunit Pundir. Vice-Chancellor of the GKV Dr Surendra Kumar was also present. Both the teams scored one each field goal during the playtime. Finally, the decision of penalty shootout was taken in which FCI New Delhi defeated the Gurukul Kangadi by 5-4.
It may be mentioned that both the teams had played final match during the 82nd hockey tournament in 2013 and FCI was the winner too. Dr Kumar in his address said that this tournament is the third oldest tournament of the country. President of the tournament Dr RKS Dagar thanked the teams, players, coaches and managers for their participation and the discipline that they have show during every match.
MlA who was also the former Cabinet Minister thanked the players for showing true sportsmanship and the GKV too for conducting the tournament in the city. He announced that green carpet grass would be provided for the field from MlA fund. He hoped that the next tournament will be played on the carpet grass. Secretary of the tournament Ajay Malik thanked the National level umpire Gyanendra Singh, Arun Garg and the observer Jaynarayan Tyagi and also the volunteers for their support during the tournament.
During the final match many eminent persons, including Registrar of GKV Vinod Kumar, Prof. N R Verma, Prof VK Singh and BJP youth leader Kunwar Brijesh Narayan were present.
