Former Punjab Education Minister and senior Congress leader Chaudhary Gurmail Singh passed away on Wednesday after a brief illness. State’s political leaders cutting across the party lines, including Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, his deputy son and SAD president Sukhbir Badal, State Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa, Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh, among others, condoled his demise.
Expressing profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of veteran Congress leader, Badal described Chaudhary Gurmail Singh as a votary of the downtrodden and oppressed sections of the society.“His contribution in the welfare of the underprivileged sections of society would be ever remembered by one and all,” said Badal while expressing his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family.
Congress Deputy leader in the lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh said that Chaudhary was a senior and respected leader of the party who worked for the uplift of underprivileged and downtrodden. “His loss will always be felt in the party,” he said.
