On the issue of evening classes, the agitated students forced a lock down in the DAV College on Tuesday due to which the examination forms of large number of students could not be submitted. December 30 was the last date for submitting the examination forms for the first year students but the agitators forcibly closed the counters of the college due to which the forms could not be submitted.
The NSUI leader Mohan Bhandari who led the students in closing the fee counters said that students would not allow any activity in the college if the evening classes are not started soon in the college.
He said that the college administration had declared winter vacations in the College due to which most of the students had left for their home towns. Bhandari said that these students were not aware that the examination forms would be submitted during the winter vacations.
He charged the college administration for creating an environment of confusion. The students however are worried as they failed to deposit the examination forms due to the agitation.The officiating Principal of the DAV College SP Mittal told The Pioneer that a request to the university to extend the date of submitting the examination forms.
The Principal of the College Devendra Bhasin is on a leave and would resume work on January 1; the college would probably take its decision on his return. The issue of evening classes has reached a stage of stalemate due to which fate of thousands of students hangs in balance.
The adamant attitude of State Government and the College Management on a minor issue of recruitment of temporary teachers for evening classes has caused the delay in admissions in the colleges.
The State Government is insisting that the faculty of the evening classes would be recruited by a committee headed by the district magistrate while the College management is of the view that the recruitment of teachers is its sole prerogative.
