CB takes Maoist leader on 9-day remand
Director General of Police Sanjeev Marik on Wednesday revealed that the police have enough evidence to prove top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda's link in the Nayagarh armoury loot case.
Talking to reporters here, Marik said the revolver which was seized from Panda during his arrest at Brahmapur belongs to the Nayagarh-based armoury, which was looted by the Maoists in February 2008.
"As the investigation is underway, I can't divulge any other details about Sabyasachi's link. But we have evidences against him to prove him guilty," said Marik.
Meanwhile, the State Crime Branch police took Panda on a nine-day remand after he was produced before the SDJM Court at Nayagarh on Wednesday amid tight security.
The SDJM Court had earlier allowed the Crime Branch to take the Maoist leader on remand in connection with three separate cases related to the armoury loot incident.
The Crime Branch has also requested the Phulbani SDJM Court to allow it to take Panda on a five-day remand for interrogation in the VHP leader laxmanananda Saraswati murder case, sources said.
