The Punjab Election Commission is coming out with innovative ways to entice the first-time voters to exercise their franchise on April 30. Right from facilitating the voters to avoid long queues at the polling booth via SMS alerts to giving appreciation certificates to the first-time voters, Amritsar District Election Office has tied up with various beauty salons, hotels, restaurants, computer institutes, etc to offer 30 per cent discount to them.
All they have to do is to show the “ink mark” on their finger, and avail the benefits. More to the point, the discounts would not only meant for the voters, in fact, their relatives can also avail that within a month’s time. Even though the Election Commission is leading a campaign against luring the voters, it is itself indulging in the same tactics — no doubt, here it’s for the right cause.
Capt dubs Majithia as ‘Imran Masood of SAD-BJP’
Amritsar: Dubbing Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia as “Imran Masood of SAD-BJP”, the former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday asked his rival at Amritsar seat Arun Jaitley to have moral courage to condemn him the same way, he condemned Imran Masood for his outrageous remarks about Narendra Modi. “I strongly condemn what Imran Masood said about Modi and he must be given exemplary punishment for that…But I want to know Jaitely if he has moral courage to condemn Majithia for a similar outrageous outburst when he said, ‘if Badal orders him, he would chop off his (Capt Amarinder’s) head and put it in his (Badal’s) feet’. Capt Amarinder asked Jaitley if the “remarks or crime are similar, then why have different yardstickIJ”
Sidhu is arun Jaitley’s Eklavya
Amritsar:At his best in drawing parallel on Sunday, Capt Amarinder termed outgoing Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu Eklavya, and his replacement and BJP stalwart Arun Jaitley as Guru Dronacharya. “The treatment meted out to the outgoing Amritsar MP Navjot Sidhu reminded him of the famous Eklavya story in Mahabharata where Guru Dronacharya had sought Eklavya’s right thumb as gurudakshina just to ensure that he is not able to beat his favourite student Arjun,” said Capt Amarinder in his Facebook post. He said that just like dedicated and devoted Eklavya did not take a second to chop off his right thumb to handover it to his teacher as a mark of respect, Jaitely appears to have taken his Guru Dakshina from his student Sidhu, who seems to have gladly handed it over. Probably, Jaitely has found a new shishya (student) in Bikram Majithia.
