Election Commission of India’s (ECI) four representatives were on their two day visit to Jharkhand for inspecting the ongoing exercise of special summary revision of electoral rolls ahead of the Assembly elections.
Deputy District Election Officer Praveen Kumar Gagrai sharing information about the same said, “The representatives were unhappy with the process of the program in Ranchi parliamentary constituency. In as many as ten polling centers the Booth level Officers (BlOs) were found absent from the duty.” Coming down heavily on the BlOs nonchalant attitude the representatives have sought for a show cause from them. In the recently held lok Sabha elections many people failed to exercise their franchise as their name was found missing from the electoral roll.
Some of them also complained that due to the BlOs carelessness they missed the chance. To correct such glitches in the light of the upcoming legislative assembly elections, the ECI has started the special summary revision of electoral rolls in three States- Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Haryana.
“The commission has asked the officials to ensure that no eligible voter fails to exercise their franchise in the upcoming assembly election due to names missing from the list. They have offered few suggestions also for improving the work procedure on which we will act,” said Gagrai. The representatives were split into two teams. On Saturday while one team moved towards the naxal hit areas the other team were inspecting booths of Bokaro and its adjoining areas. Under Secretary at ECI Kumar Rajeev and AK Pathak and ECI Section Officer Santosh Kumar and Somyajeet Gosh were the team members.
