To ensure general polls 2014 peacefully and without bias, the flying squad of Election Commission seized huge cache of illegal weapons, cartridges, crude bombs, liquor and cash from various persons as of now.
Giving details of the seizure, Chief Electoral Officer, Umesh Sinha told the flying squad which consisted of officials of excise department, income tax and police department had seized a total of 2513 illegal weapons, 4485 live cartridges, 180 crude bombs and a cash of Rs 5.12 crore during the checking in different districts as per the details given by the police headquarters lucknow.
Sinha further informed that 111 illegal weapons, 127 cartridges and 5 crude bombs were recovered during a drive that was conducted on Sunday.The CEC further informed that a total seizure of 7674 liter of illegal liquor was made only during the last 24 hours.
"The seizure consisted of 3207 liter of country made liquor, 3911 liter of foreign made liquor and 556 liter of beer. He said the flying squad seized a total of 1,73,313 liter of liquor as of now. He further said 171 cases were registered against persons involved in illegal activities and 102 persons had been arrested by the police.
