Come January 1, the patients would have to pay more for the admission and other medical tests as the Doon hospital has increased its charges.
The hospital increases the user charges every year by 10 per cent based on the rates of year 2010. Though the hospital is yet to prepare the list of the revised charges, there is confusion among the hospital staff as most of them are of the view that the user charges may increase by 10 per cent on the existing charges. The in-charge of billing section of Doon hospital Manish Dobhal clarified that the rates would be revised keeping the rates of 2010 as base. He said that the blood tests like Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC), Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) and platelet concentrate would remain unchanged as per the provision of the Government Order (GO) of June 2010.
The hospital charges Rs250 for Whole blood and PRBC while for platelet concentrate and FFP the charges are Rs400. Dobhal informed that rates of Magnetic Image Resonance (MRI) would also remain unchanged at Rs3,500 per part. As per the provisions of the GO the rates would increase in the multiples of Rs1. The user charges are a good source of revenue for the hospital administration. The hospital collects about Rs25 lakh every month from these charges. The hospital has to transfer 50 per cent of the collected charges to the State Government and it keeps the remaining amount for its use.
The hospital authorities have time and again written to the authorities that it should be allowed to keep all the money collected through these charges so that it do not have to depend on the State Government for funds.
