Apparently distressed over a failed love-affair, an 18-year-old girl attempted suicide by jumping off from the fourth floor of her aunt’s residence at Manimajra.

later, the family members of the girl also protested outside Manimajra Police Station on Monday demanding to arrest the youth who had an alleged affair with the girl.

The girl identified as Santosh Kumari, a resident of Indira Colony, was rushed to the Sector 16 Government Multi Speciality Hospital (GMSH) after the suicide attempt, where her condition is stated to be stable.

The incident took place on late Sunday. The family of Santosh said she wanted to marry one Joginder Singh, but as his parents were against their relation, she attempted to end her life.

last month, Santosh and Joginder had apparently eloped from their house. However they were later found on the complaint of girl’s parents. After the incident, parents of Joginder promised to allow them to marry. After few days she was sent to her maternal aunt’s residence, who is living in the same locality.

On Sunday, Santosh came to know that she won’t be allowed to marry Joginder and will be sent to her native place at Haryana. Depressed, she jumped from the fourth floor of her aunt’s residence.

High drama prevailed at the police station of Manimajra as parents of Santosh protested outside the police station and demanded arrest of Joginder Singh.

Rukmani Devi, mother of Santosh, said that Joginder Singh responsible for  her daughter’s suicide attempt. Charanjit Singh, SHO, PS-Manimajra, said that no case was registered in the matter as Santosh Kumari has denied any involvement of Joginder in the suicide attempt and further investigations are under progress.
