Even as several parts of Punjab and Haryana continue to receive light to moderate rainfall in past 24 hours, the mercury hovered above normal levels across the region on Wednesday.
Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded maximum temperature of 35 degree Celsius, two degrees above normal. A day before, the city had settled at a maximum temperature of 32 degree Celsius. The temperature
levels witnessed a sharp rise on Wednesday in several parts of Punjab and Haryana as well. According to Meteorological Department, some parts of the neighboring state of Haryana and Punjab received light to moderate rainfall in past 24 hours. Bhiwani recorded 2.4 mm rainfall, Hissar 1.7 mm, Karnal 5.2 mm, Narnaul 7 mm, Amritsar 2.6 mm, ludhiana 6.7 mm and Patiala 4.4 mm. In Haryana, Ambala settled at a maximum temperature of 35.9 degree Celsius, three notches above normal while Narnual settled at 35.5degree Celsius.
Among other places in the region, Bhiwani settled at a high of 35.4 degree Celsius, Hissar 35.5 degrees, Amritsar recorded 33.6 degrees, ludhiana settled at 34.7 degree Celsius and Patiala witnessed a high of 35.3 degree Celsius.The minimum temperature recorded was 24 degrees in Narnaul, 26.6 degrees in Chandigarh, 26.2 degree Celsius in Ambala, 26.6 degrees in Bhiwani, 25.5 degrees in Hissar, 24.8 degrees in Karnal and 24.1 degrees Celsius in Amritsar.
A Met official informed that the humidity levels also remained high across the region. The humidity level was 94 per cent in Amritsar, 86 per cent in Karnal, 85 percent in Narnaul, 81 per cent in Bhiwani and 79 per cent in Chandigarh.Shimla, the capital city of neighboring Himachal Pradesh recorded 30.8 mm rainfall in past 24 hours and settled at maximum temperature of 23.5 degree Celsius.
The Met Department has forecast light to moderate rains or thunder showers at few places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.And, Chandigarh is likely to witness overcast conditions during next 24 hours.
