The news of the decision of Ranchi’s pride Mahendra Singh Dhoni to take retirement from Test cricket came as a surprise for people of Ranchi, who have seen the local lad touching new heights of success and gifting the nation most coveted achievements one after another. The city denizens — including the star cricketer’s relatives, coaches, friends and well-wishers — were awestruck with the decision though they said that the cricketer has contributed enough to the game than anyone else and his decision must be a well-though out one in the prevailing situation.
Former Secretary of Ranchi District Cricket Association Sunil Singh, who was one of the first selectors of Dhoni in the district league matches, said that the cricketer’s decision was sudden but it need to be accepted by one and all. “Dhoni has always shocked his followers. His marriage was also suddenly announced like the Test match retirement. We are glad that he has made the record of highest run-scorer in Team India. He might have taken the correct decision since there were ups and downs in his career from the Australian Tour,” Singh said.
Former Ranji Trophy-cum under-25 India Team player Pradeep Khanna, who has been a constant guide and senior colleague of Dhoni, said that the skipper’s decision was must because he was willing to focus more on One Day matches as the World Cup 2015 is barely few months far. Taking retirement from Test match is his personal decision and one should respect and salute him for it, he added.Another senior guide-cum-former colleague of Dhoni Anwar Mustafa, who happens to be the member State Under-16, 19 selection committee opined that Dhoni should have waited till World Cup as much is left in him.
