The residents of worst affected DD Nagar locality are suffering both physically and financially due to jaundice outbreak.
Though the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has supplied drinking water through tankers and launched a cleanliness drive in the vastly populated colony on Tuesday, the colony dwellers are angry over the hurriedly carried out move after jaundice had already afflicted a large number of residents of the locality.
Pt Yudhishtar Prasad Sharma, resident of Sector-2, said that he had been suffering from Jaundice for the last ten days. As his son resides in Baloda Bazar, nobody is there to take him to the doctor. As he has no faith in the services of a Government hospital, he has been taking medical treatment from a private doctor.
Sharma said that he has been hit by both inflation and treatment expenses. Both Renu Sharma and her brother are under the grip of Jaundice now.
Another resident Sangeeta Gautam and her daughter Aditi are suffering from Jaundice. She said that because of the disease for the last 15 days, arrangements in the house have badly been affected.
lalji Gautam said that the door-to-door survey team had reached the colony. The team had told to arrange Ambulance to take patients to Kalibadi hospital, but who will look after the patients. The Health department should arrange for supply of medicines at home, he added.
Another resident Sunita said that her son Vivek is suffering from Jaundice since last 15 days. “The water tanker reached here after many days. Nobody is there to take care of water supply. Piped water reached this house today but it was contaminated,” she said.
Sector-2 resident Suresh Shrivastava said that no attention has been paid to the cleanliness work of the colony. After a long interval, the Sanitary workers reached here today.
A resident Khushboo said that water supplied in the colony on Tuesday was contaminated.
Giving information about the camp organised at Community Hall, Dr Chandraprakash Saav said that the Municipal Corporation and the Health Department have jointly organised the camp for examining patients for Jaundice. Along with Jaundice test, people were being informed about paying attention towards taking precaution to prevent the disease. Multi-vitamin, Anti-biotic and Calcium tablets were distributed to the patients at the camp.
Harish Trivedi, who came to the camp for a Jaundice test said that he has been drinking distilled water as a precaution. Madhu said that contaminated water is being supplied for the last several days.
