The construction of 10-km-long road under ‘Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Yojna’ between Godalbai and Kamarbhaudi villages of the district was left incomplete by the Contractor has virtually turned into hell for the commuters.
The ‘murrum’ has been washed while cracks have developed on the road making it hazardous for the commuters to move through it.
A complaint has been lodged with Chief Minister Raman Singh who had sanctioned Rs3 crore for construction of the road.
According to sources, the contract was given to a Contractor of Mahasamund who laid a layer of ‘murrum’ for construction of road. The Contractor did not get ‘murrum’ flat using a Road Roller and left it as it is for four months. A payment of Rs40 lakh for the work and Rs15 lakh as advance payment was allegedly made to the Contractor only for laying ‘murrum’.
The ‘murrum’ was washed away in rain water and the road is left with mud with huge cracks. Executive Engineer of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana SK Agrawal has assigned investigation in the matter to an Engineer acknowledged that the work has been left incomplete by the Contractor.
The contractor has not constructed the culvert and the murrum has been washed away by rain, he said.
“I have issued notice to the Contractor and given him time till November 15 to complete the work. Failing to do so, penalty at the rate of one per cent will be charged from him” said Agrawal.
