Alleging that the State Election Commission was working under the pressure of the ruling State Government, the Madhya Pradesh Congress on Tuesday charged that the Election Commission had announced the election schedules according to the wish of Government to benefit the ruling party — the BJP.
State spokesperson of Congress JP Dhanopia in a statement said that for the first time it had been witnessed that submission of nomination would start on the next day of announcement of notification which had been done according to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan who wished to conduct elections in the major cities of the State at the earliest. The CM does not wish to include those voters who would turn 18 on January 1, 2015.
Dhanopia said that in all the elections organised by State Election Commission candidates were facing great difficulties on the declaration of results and it had raised suspicion over the intentions of the Commission. Now with the declaration of elections in four Municipal Corporations in haste suggested that this was done to benefit a specific political party and it would also be injustice to voters who would turn 18 on January 1, 2015.
He urged State Election Commissioner R Parshuram to amend the election schedules of the municipal corporation elections and said the submission of nomination should be postponed by one week which would make the workers of political parties to get tickets easily. State Election Commission should secure the democratic right of those who would be eligible for voting on January 1, 2015.
