Congress in the name of Mahatma Gandhi hit the gong for elections in Jharkhand. The party organised a big rally on the ‘Martyr’s Day’ on Thursday and sought support for it in the upcoming election in order to defeat “communal forces.”
“If elections were to happen in the name of development then no one can defeat the Congress. All the dams and factories in the country have been built by the party. But they (BJP) are just taking name of development but going for destruction. You have to choose in this election between development and destruction,” said Congress general secretary and MP BK Hariprasad while addressing the rally organised for Ranchi lok Sabha constituency, presently represented by Subodh Kant Sahay.
In the rally named as ‘Satya samkalp sammelan’ party workers and supporters from the various parts of the constituency came in good numbers and chanted Congress, Subodh Kant, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi more than Mahatma Gandhi. This prompted leaders, though lately, on the dais to remind them that it was the occasion of martyrdom of the father of the nation and only ‘Mahatma Gandhi ki jai’ should be aired by the crowd. Nevertheless, the rally organisers forgot to observe two-minute silence on the name of Mahatma!
In a scathing attack on BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi BK Hariprasad termed him a subscriber of Nathuram Godse’s ideology.
“A man has come from Gujarat who attacks Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. But the person had not taken the name of Mahatma Gandhi on a single occasion! The birth place of Gandhiji, Porbandar, is in the grips of mafia don Santokh Ben and who is said to becoming Prime Minister is unable to make it free from it,” said the Congress in-charge of Jharkhand.
He also lauded on the occasion the “sacrifice” of Sonia who refused Prime Minister’s post and also took on Modi’s “Congress-free India” slogan.
“Gandhi made Congress a larger unit by inducting all sections from society. When Britishers could not make India Congress-free then what Modi can do. The Congress has kept India united for 65 years for which the BJP is not capable off,” he said.
On the occasion PCC president Sukhdeo Bhagat said that the rally was for taking resolution. “This is an election year and dilemma before you is weather to choose Godse or Gandhi. Communal forces want to break this country while those were the Congress leaders who sacrificed their lives,” said Bhagat.
Sahay said that body of Gandhi can be killed but not his ideologies which should prevail instead of rowdiness which “is on rife now-a-days in the country”.
