The State Congress on Thursday has appreciated UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for approving a total of 303 city buses under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for Chhattisgarh’s cities. Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) spokesperson Jaswant Claudius in a statement issued here stated that the JNNURM had encouraged planned development of selected cities in the country.
In this direction, the UPA Government without any discrimination approved crores of rupees for the ruling BJP Government for implementing many welfare programmes for the poor such as provision of housing, drinking water and transport availability in Chhattisgarh, he said. Keeping in view the pressures of rising urban transportation needs, the UPA Government approved a total of 60 buses for Raipur, 110 for Durg-Bhilai, 50 for Bilaspur, 48 for Korba and 35 for Ambikapur, Claudius said. He said that the UPA Government had paid equal attention to the needs of the rural areas in tandem with the development of urban areas of Chhattisgarh.
