A day after first-phase polling of the urban body general election, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) expelled as many as 14 Congressmen for their alleged involvement in anti-party activities, on Tuesday.
Congress leaders including Tarannu Siddiqui contesting as rebel from Dantewada Municipal Council, Kirandul Nagar Block president, Jovinse Papchan, Rajkumar Oyami, Ila Patel, laxmi Devi, Virendara Manjhi, Salim Siddiqui, Arif Siddiqui, Puran Singh contesting as rebel from Badebachali Municipal Council, Asheesh Yadav, Bemetara Nagar Block president, Basant Das Manikpuri, lalit Vishwakarma, Chaturdas Manikpuri and Yogeshwar Choubey faced expulsion.
“All the 14 party workers were found either contesting against Congress’ official candidates as rebels or helping the rebels in the polls. They have been expelled for next six years” informed CGPCC spokesperson, Shailesh Nitin Trivedi. Earlier to this, Manoj Mishra, Nishchay Bajpayee and Tara Shankar Sahu contesting from Kumhari Municipal Council, Phooleshwari contesting from Ahiwara Municipal Council and Monika Gupta contesting from Balrampur Municipal Council have been expelled from the Congress’ membership.
Santosh Yadav contesting from Jagdalpur, K Damaru Reddy from Chirmiri, Usha Tiwari from Korba and Deepa Pratap Madhyani from Durg Municipal Corporation were among the key rebels expelled by the party, so far. With today’s action, number of total expelled Congressmen has reached to 84 as the party had expelled 49 rebels on Dec 23 and 21 rebels on Dec 24.
