Demands its rollback; threatens stir
PCC president Jayadev Jena on Wednesday came down heavily on the State Government and the CESU for enhancing security deposits on the consumers.
Alleging that the State Government is silent on the CESU’s decision to hike the security deposits, he said about 18 lakh consumers in seven districts would be affected if the decision is implemented.
He said that while the CESU is dead set to implement its decision, it has failed to collect arrears in crores of rupees on private companies. Besides, he said the CESU has failed to provide 24 hours seamless supply of electricity in rural and urban areas.
The rural areas are still reeling under unscheduled power cuts and plunging in darkness during night, he added.
He also opposed the CESU’s decision to collect 15 per cent interest from the consumers if they fail to pay within two months.
Jena called all the political parties to oppose the move, demanding its immediate rollback. He also threatened to launch a stir if no positive action was taken on the issue.
