A large procession of tribal farmers was taken out in and around Chandragiri town in Gajapati district demanding adequate compensation to maize farmers whose crops were severely damaged due to last year’s Cyclone Phailin and this year’s Hud Hud. The rally was organised by the BJP as its Sanklapa Samavesh.
BJP youth leader and former Brahmapur Mayor Shiva Sankar Das also addressed the farmers. Many leaders from the Congress, the BJD and the CPI(M) of the Mohana Assembly constituency joined the BJP on this occasion reposing trust on the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BJP leader and former Assembly Deputy Speaker Rama Chandra Panda in his address said the State government has not yet provided any assistance to the affected farmers.
The Chief Minister did not visit Chandragiri to assess the crop loss. The Government should immediately compensate the farmers, open a maize godown at Mahendragarah or Chandragiri and establish a maize processing plant.
They included former Mohana Block Chairman and Congress leader Prasant Mallik, Congress leader Jagannath Sabar, senior CPI(M) leader Debaraj Dalabehera, BJD Samiti members Shantilata Mohanty and Mangal Bhuyan, Jagannath Bhuyan and Sarpanch Behu Dalai.
