The State Government on Thursday urged the Centre to grant approval for proposed IT Investment Region (ITIR) in Bhubaneswar.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said implementation of the ITIR project in the State would contribute significantly to the two new programmes launched by the Centre -- ‘Make in India’ and the ‘Digital India’ -- with IT and ITES (Information Technology Enabled Services) as the major thrust areas.

The Chief Minister reminded the PM that the Odisha Government had submitted a detailed project report (DPR) to the Union Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeitY) on April 13, 2010 for setting up of an ITER in Bhubaneswar.Stating that the ITIR project would come up in an area of 10,210 acres of land with a processing area of 4,300 acres to house IT/ITES/Electronics Hardware Manufacturing (EHM) and R&D centres, Patnaik said the proposed project would generate over two lakh job opportunities in the IT, ITES and ESDM (Electronic System Design and Manufacturing) sectors.

“Though the high power committee under the Cabinet Secretary has cleared the DPR of the State Government and sent all necessary clarifications regarding the proposed project to the DeitY, the matter is still pending with the Centre till date,” he pointed out.Patnaik urged the Prime Minister to intervene for an early approval of the proposal.
